Abstract

ABSTRACT AL-Mullah Othman Al- Mosulli has considered one of the eastern music pioneer and the Mosul city great figure in the fields of literature, music, melodizing, and singing. He was born in Bab Al- Iraq quarter in 1854 A.D. He was stricken by blindness at seven due to a small box disease, and he grew up poorly and orphan until he was nursed by Al-Umary family which is one of Mosulli highbred families. He grew up under the auspices of this family which brought him teachers in order to teach him the Holy Qur'an intonation, poet melodizing, and music. He traveled to Baghdad in order to increase his knowledge. Then, he became well-known in the field of Quran readings, composing poetry, and music. He traveled to many cities and countries such as: Aleppo, Damascus, Egypt, Istanbul, and Mecca and Hejaz searching for their scientific resources to increase his knowledge. He affected and being influenced by the scholars of the societies that he passed them especially in the fields of music and singing. Also, he was considered the model of Arabic music for several great figures such as: Abda Al-Hamuli, Sayed Darwish, and Kamel Al-Khula'e from Egypt, Abee Khaleel Alqabani from Syria, and Kadhem Auz from Turkey. He had the skills in both kinds of literature, prose and verse, and he digested the Sufi creeds such as Qadria, Refa'ea, and Mawlowia. Also, he was an orator and journalist. He returned to Mosul and headed Atakia Almawlowia in Shamis Adden mosque in 1913. He moved to Baghdad again in 1914 and lived in Al-Khafafeen Mosque. The religious men elected him the chief of Baghdad Quran readers. Furthermore, number of Maqamat readers, singers, and musicians were taught by him. He died in Baghdad at 30th January 1923 and buried in Al-Khafafeen Mosque. However, his music and singing heritage formed a turning point in the history of Arabic music. In this research, we depended on professional views in music in order to arise the perfect role of this character throughout his distinguished works which were attributed to his students illegally.
