Abstract

This study aimed to measure survivorship and fecundity parameters of Callosobruchus maculates F. reared on different hosts (cowpea , chickpea and lentil ) .The experiment was carried under laboratory conditions ,Life tables and population parameters were constructed to estimate survivorship in all stages of beetle life cycle. Results showed that the highest mortality occurred in the immature stages (larval stages) for all hosts was 34.02 , 35.38 , 56.89 % and the total mortality was 57.5 , 74.44 , 78.88 % on cowpea , chickpea and lentil on respectively. The sex ratio( male: female) was 1:1.27 , 1:1.02 , 1:1 on respectively. Fertility tables showed that net reproductive rate Ro of population was 33.27 , 26.38 , 24.82 and mean generation time T was 31.58 , 39.89 , 46. 72 and the intrinsic rate of increase r was 0.11 , 0.08 , 0.06 and the population doubling time DT was within 6.30 , 8.66 , 11.55 day for three hosts on respectively According to the results it could be concluded that the survivorship curve of Callosobruchus maculates F. approach to a diagonal model curve which reflects a modest rate of mortality during life stages and gradual reduction when a approaching adulthood with significant effect of food preference for cowpea comparative with chickpea and lentil
