The Cytotoxic effect to Methanolic Crude of Euphorbia tirucalli Stems on Hela and AMN-3 Cell Lines

Abstract

This work was carried out to investigate the cytotoxic effect of methanolic crude extract of Euphorbia tirucallistems on the growth of both the cervical carcinoma cell line )Hela( and the mammary adenocarcinomacell line of mice )AMN-3( invitro. Various concentrations of the extract was used )31.25, 62.25, 125, 250, 500(μg/ml against both of these cell line types, for 72hr. exposure time. The results revealed that the inhibition rates of the Hela cell line directly proportionalto the used concentrations, as the highest inhibition rate achieved )38.38%( was at the highest concentration used )250μg/ml(, while the least inhibition rate achieved )24.87%( was at the least concentration used )31.25 μg/ml(.On the other hand, AMN-3 cell line inhibition rates were low for all the used concentrations and ranged between )18-35(%. From this results, it can be concluded that Euphor- bia tirucalli L. could be a promising medicinal plant, but need more future studies to determine the appropriate concentra- tions and to study its effects on more cell line types.
