Press coverage of the Iraqi sports for the great events An analytical study of the “Mondale” for the finals of World Cup in South Africa 2010

Abstract

The Iraqi sport journalism has paid great attention to sport events through press coverage of all its forms and arts, especially the coverage of the World Cup of football which is one of the most watched events in the world. Thousands of journals are preparing for the immediate coverage of such event which is a daunting task in itself. Newspapers have devoted a wider space to this great event in its pages as well as the weakly sport newspapers work on issuing a daily special issue. The importance of this research sheds light on the coverage of major events such as World Cup in Iraqi newspapers. The topic is new since no one had studies media coverage of this great event. “Mondale” has been chosen because of its success. It gets a significant presence among other Iraqi newspapers which cover the World Cup in South Africa in 2010. Also, Mondale is the name that has been launched by the world, Arab and local newspapers on the championship. The research has focused on what has been published on the newspaper of events, reports and other forms of media arts throughout all its pages. The researcher ends this research with such conclusions as : most notably that the Iraqi sport journals pay great attention to major sport events especially World Cup championship through press coverage that positively reflected on the level of the local game; the proportion of media arts covering the championship form a great importance running to 90.3% in comparison with other forms of press arts. Most depend on news. What overwhelmed the newspapers is posting photos of ‘Mondale’. The images of the World Cup have captured a large proportion of iteration and space compared with images that have nothing to do with the global event.
