Abstract

An Experimental Study of the Effects of Some Atmospheric Parameters on Laser Beam propagationDr. Basim, A. ShiwaiDept. of Science - Collage of Basic education Abstract This Research deals with an experimental study of the effects of some atmospheric factors on laser beam Propagation in the atmosphere , such as ( dust and relative humidity variation ) , for lasers with visible and invisible wavelengths contains ( 531 , 632.8 , 810 , 1050 nm ) ,The measurements were restricted to laboratory simulation of dust and humidity precipition by constructing a chamber with dimensions ( 1.5 x 0.4 x 0.6 ) m^3 of path length 7.5 m .The different atmospheric factors show considerable effect on laser beam transmission in the atmosphere , and the atmosphere attenuates the optical signal as laser light is absorbed and scattered by particles in its path . From absorption and scattering coefficient calculations . an attenuation coefficient has been calculated for ( 40 – 60 ) μm Particle size .Key words: Laser , Atmospheric factors, Attenuation, Absorption, Scattering.
