The Metaphoric Image in Al-Ghadeeryat

Abstract

AbstractThis paper deals with the (metaphor in Al-ghadeeriat Poems) through artistic analysis. We have also explained what is meant by Al-ghadeeriat in the introduction as a term to be presented to the mainstream literary circles and we limited it only to the poems that tackled the occasion on the pledge of allegiance at the pool of Khum as their subjects. Then the plan of the paper has been shown where we briefly discussed imagery. After that metaphor is studied through two sections; the first deals with the metonymy and the second discusses declarative metaphor. The paper ends up with a conclusion containing the results where we explained that this pictorial procedure has given the text sublimity in accordance with the sublimity of the idea the poets sought to express i.e. the incident of pledge of allegiance at the Pool of Khum where the significance is the rightful sovereign power of Imam Ali Bin Abi Talib (P.B.U.H.) Metaphor has contributed to the alteration of the expressed significance by moving it between the material and the rational and in embodying meaning and personifying it let alone the employment of the religious dimension to prove things and repudiating them and in ascribing proofs to tradition and refuting the proofs of the adversary and the employment of the senses. Poets denote to bring into prominence meaning by making their imagery closer to realization and more convincing.
