Evaluation of Performance of Upland Cotton Genotypes under The Influence of Different Planting Spaces between Plants

Abstract

The genotypes of upland cotton, IK8, S29, S118, Coker310, Cord26, Condor, Deer22 and Halab33 were planted in the farm guidance for the development of cotton cultivation in Sharqat the elimination of the Agriculture Directorate of Salah al-Din Governorate during the growing seasons in 2013 and 2014 when the distances cultivation between plants (15, 20, 25 and 30 cm) using a randomized complete block design with three replications, in order to evaluate its performance for characters, number of days to first boll opening, plant height, number of fruiting branches, number of bolls per plant, boll weight, earliness and seed cotton yield per plant. Combined analysis of variance results showed that mean square for each of seasons, genotypes and plant spaces was significant for all characters with the exception of number of days to first boll opening and plant height in the case of seasons and number of fruiting branches, number of bolls per plant and seed cotton yield per plant in the case of genotypes. There is a significant interaction between the genotypes, planting spaces and seasons for number of days to first boll opening, plant height, number of bolls per plant and boll weight, indicated that the performance of the genotypes the impact of planting spaces varied in different growing seasons. The genotypes varied in response to a change in the spacing between plants, and in general it was shown for the most genotypes that the spaces 25 and 30 cm between plants gave averages of better performance for most of the characters under study. The combined trend analysis showed that the appropriate relationship between the planting spaces was cubic with number of days to first boll opening, plant height and number of bolls per plant, either for the rest of the characters, was linear with earliness and seed cotton yield per plant in the 2014 season, quadratic with earliness in season 2013 and number of fruiting branches in the 2014 season and cubic with the number of days to first boll opening and seed cotton yield per plant in the 2013 season.
