Bio removal of heavy metals by local isolate Bacillus subtilis

Abstract

To isolates of Bacillus subtilis were isolated from inks factory soil (green) and Midland Refineries Company soil (Daura). The two isolates have proved their fully removal ability for the most studied heavy elements, The percentages of removal for Ni, Cu, Zn, Cr, Fe, Pb and Cd were 84.6, 87.7, 71.5, 91.2, 97..9, and 88.1 % using Bacillus subtilis 1 and the removal percentage to Cr element using Bacillus subtilis2 isolate was 82.7%. The two isolates have proved their fully removal ability for the most studied heavy elements by them analyze at low concentrations (1 mg L-1) individually or in combination, the two isolates proved their removal ability for the minerals combination at concentration of 100 mg L-1.The determination of heavy minerals removal achieved by using the dead and alive biomass for the two isolates of Bacillus subtilis 1 to treat the elements, Cu, Zn, Pb, Ni, Cd and Bacillus subtilis 2 to treat Cr element. The percentages of removal in alive cells were 90, 87.2, 98.8, 97.7, 97.8, and 94.9 % and in dead cells were 92.7, 88.5 98.8, 98.4, 98.3, and 96.6 % consequently. It was noticed the increased efficiency of Bacillus subtilis 1M isolate for the minerals, Fe, Pb, Zn ,Cu , Ni and Cd, and also noticed their increased efficiency in removal Cr element which reached 99.77% , in addition to the other elements after conducting of a chemical mutation using the mutation material so called Agridine orange and the physical mutation using Ultra Violate ray. Also it was noticed the increased efficiency for Bacillus subtilis 2M in removal of all the mineral elements after the chemical and physical mutation of it. Bacillus subtilis 1M isolate has proved a high efficiency in biological treatment for the industrial waste water of Al- Daura refinery and the waste water of the Dairy of Abu-Ghraib, and the dead and alive biomass for Bacillus subtilis 1M also have proved a high efficiency in biological treatment for the industrial waste water of Al- Daura refinery and the waste water of the Dairy of Abu-Ghraib.
