The Scholastic ( Scientific ) Life In The Holy Karbala City Until The Tenth century of the Hegira

Abstract

The present research tried to study the scholastic life of the holy Karbala city and its effect on the scholastic families and their scholastic ( Scientific ) contributions during ten centuries of the Hegira . The area surrounding the present Karbala during the pre- Islamic centuries had its historical , religious and geographic significance . However , the present Karbala city as an Islamic holy city came to existence with the martyrdom of Imam Husain bin Ali bin Abi Talib ( pbuth) in Al-Taff Battle in ( 61 A.H./ 680 A.D. ) .Through its various historical stages, Karbala city was the scene different happenings which affected its sociological prosperity and growth . That was due to the attention and care- taking the city and its holy shrines gained during the Islamic period by a great number of governors and rulers governing Iraq . These were from different cultures especially during the Abbasid , the Bowayhy , the Jalairy and Safawy periods ( reigns) . Karbala played a great and significant role in different periods of the Islamic history . It was the centre of urbanization and a centre of scholastic , religious and cultural flourishing .It was considered one of the most important cities of the Islamic world. The city received the attention of a number of the explorers , the historians and the orientalists each of whom took and studied a particular side of the history of the city and its distinctive Islamic landmarks
