Measuring the total productivity and the contribution of the growth of production elements in the growth of the agricultural GDP for the period (1990-2015)

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the determinants of the progress in agricultural production and its contribution to total productivity and production inputs to achieve economic growth for the period (1990-2015). Therefore, total productivity was calculated on the basis of the Cobl Duklasm function using the OLS method. The results of the estimation indicated the significance of the variables and their ability to interpret 67% of the changes in the agricultural GDP. The labor component was more intensive than the growth rate, with a contribution of 58%, while its growth rate reached 0.9% The capital component had a contribution of 38%. No relationship was found between the rate of growth of production components and their contribution to the agricultural GDP. The contribution of total productivity reached 39%, and thus it required raising the productivity of agricultural work through strengthening and intensifying the role of agricultural extension and research centers in training workers, to provide information, advisory services and assistance to solve problems in the production process. This will lead to raise the technical, managerial and technological capabilities of workers in the agricultural sector.
