Abstract

The study aims to study the effect of monetary policy on economic variables (economic growth rate, inflation rate and unemployment rate) during the period 1990-2017. The research has used the analytical statistical method and the statistical program E-Views for statistical analysis and forecasting economic phenomena. The research dealt with the conceptual framework, concepts and terminology related to the study variables, monetary policy, economic growth rate, inflation rate and unemployment rate. The study found a significant effect of monetary policy on the rate of economic growth in the Iraqi economy during the period 1990 to 2017. There was a significant effect of monetary policy on the rate of inflation in the Iraqi economy during the period 1990 -2017, of the monetary policy on the rate of unemployment in the Iraqi economy during the period 1990 - 2017, which shows that there are factors other than monetary policies affect the unemployment rate during the research period. The study recommended to take advantage of the increase in oil prices, to make changes in the monetary policy of the Central Bank of Iraq. In order to be more effective, and impact on all economic variables. Which in return helps in achieving the objectives of economic policy, the need for the Central Bank of Iraq to develop more effective monetary policies can be making use of statistical methods and models in predicting the impact of economic policies used on economic variables affecting economic activity to determine the effectiveness of these economic policies.
