THE IMPACT OF A FUNCTIONAL AFFIXATION ROLE IN STANDARD ENGLISH AND KURDISH LANGUAGES

Abstract

Since the study of morphology of any language is essential to the understanding of how words are formed , it might provide a useful investigation for the affixation system in that language. This research attempts at investigating two different systems of affixation , namely that standard English and Kurdish . In the researchers point of view , this might give force to his investigation . This is so because the idea of universality lies in the fact that languages of the world present us with a vast array of similarities and differences . Accordingly , the present research aims at revealing these similarities and differences .To fulfil the aims of this research , the following hypotheses are proposed:1-Both languages employ affixation as a significant process in word formation and expressing notions ; and 2-Independent morphemes like pronouns in English are affixes in Kurdish and that notions like mood , negation , passivation etc. which are carried out by the use of free morphemes such as auxiliaries in English are carried out by affixes in Kurdish. This research consists of four sections, the first one as introduction , the second, demonstrates on the literature review that related to the title of this research as: morphology, and types of morphemes, affixes, inflectional vs. derivational morphemes etc., .The third section contains , the function of English affixes, the characteristics of inflectional affixes I English and also there is a reference to derivational affixation in English. The last section has some historical preliminaries about the Kurdish language .Eventually , the research ends with conclusions and bibliography of the sources that are mentioned in the text of this research.
