Remembering strategies followed by students of the Faculty of Education for Humanities at the University of Babylon (a comparative study)

Abstract

This research aims at realizing the strategies followed by the students of the College of Basic Education/ University of Babylon in the process of memorization and recalling. The sample of the research included 309 male and female students. The researcher has applied a research device consisting 40 items. After ensuring of the reliability of the device, the most important results were: that there were no statistically significant differences between the mean of using memorizing and recalling strategies by the students in the Department of Geography compared with the mean used by students in the Department of the Educational and Psychological Sciences. The results showed also that the female students use memorizing and recalling strategies nearer to the strategies used by male students. In the light of these results, the research has advocated holding training courses for the teachers in university level to make them aware of the importance and techniques of the concept of the remembering helpers within the course of the methodology of teaching geography in the College of Education for Human Sciences and the College of Basic Education as well. Moreover, the results showed that the teachers must be committed to the time of the lecture and they must not exceed the time of rest given to the students between lectures
