Abstract

The purpose of the study is to identify the reality of the reading rooms in the Iraqi university libraries and to evaluate them according to the international standards to determine the flaw of the existing libraries and to avoid the mistakes in the future. The aim of this study is also to identify the opinions of the beneficiaries in how to design the reading rooms model based on their points of view because they are our first and last goal in the plan and the design.The study used the Screening field method through inclusive checking of five central libraries of Iraq، which is the main characteristic of this study to analyze and organize the obtained data and information، and then clarify the reality to analysis according to the appropriate statistical methods. As well as the use of (analytical descriptive approach) to reach the relevant aspects and to distributed to the similar cases of these libraries.The study came out with several results، most notably:1. The study shows that there is a disparity between the reading halls of the university libraries and the standards that should be followed and relied upon design the typical reading rooms in the central university libraries. The general trend was just to provide seats and tables without taking into consideration the numbers، sizes and their suitability to the beneficiaries and what are available، such as the computers and the personal insulation reading room.2. The University of Baghdad (Jadiriya / Al-Waziriya) obtained the first rank in the standards application and scored (11) out of (16) standards followed by the libraries of Al-Mustansiriya University، Technology University and Al-Nahrain Universityd with (9) standards ، while the Central Library at the Iraqi University was at the last rank with only (8) standards. 3. Iraqi university libraries are still behind in the development plans، strategic plans، and sustainable development that our Iraqi institutions seek to achieve.
