Obstacles to political and constitutional reform in Mauritania

Abstract

AbstractMauritania suffers from internal and external obstacles that have hindered the political and constitutional reforms in the country one of these internal obstacles is the social obstacle which is the phenomenon of the tribe, slavery and illiteracy and the economic obstacle which is (the phenomenon of the unemployment, poverty and external indebtedness) and the political obstacle which is (the absence of the real opposition and the political and administrative corruption and the legitimacy crisis in governance), The constitutional obstacle which is( the supremacy of the executive institution from its usual role) in addition to the dominance of the military establishment on all constitutional institutions directly or indirectly.The external obstacles are the crisis with Senegal which affected the Mauritanian economy, and the relationship with(Israel) which was rejected by the opposition parties and the Mauritanian society, as well as the intervention of major countries and international financial institutions ( the international monetary fund and the world Bank) that are seeking for their interests in this region.
