Psychological skills and their relationship to the effectiveness of skill performance for selecting boxing players for Baghdad Boxing Clubs

Abstract

Abstract in English:This study aimed at identifying the correlational relationship between the level of psychological skills dimensions and the level of performance of some special motor skills to select boxing players for Baghdad boxing clubs. The study used the descriptive survey approach, the study sample consisted of (72) boxers from the five Baghdad clubs.The measure of the dimensions of psychological skills was distributed on the sample, a training program for a period of (8) weeks was applied to the sample. The study revealed that there was a direct significant correlation between the dimensions of psychological skills (ability to mental perception, ability to focus attention, self-confidence, ability to confront Anxiety) and the test to measure the concentration of attention for boxers, the test of strength flexion of the muscles of the arms by boxing until fatigue, the test of the kinetic speed of the arms in boxing, and the test of kinetic agility for advanced boxers,The study came out with a set of recommendations, including: increase interest in the psychological aspect, being one of the basic requirements that affect the athletic performance of a boxer, and periodic tests for boxers in successive periods to find out the true level of mastery of performance, physical fitness and knowledge of the motor skills of boxing.Key words: psychological skills, mental perception, attention focus, self-confidence, sports anxiety, skill performance, boxing.
