Abstract

Rare elements, including heavy metals are found as natural contentsof the soil due to erosion, transport and deposition and these elementsare more concentrated because of human activities .The aim of this studyis to identify the potential pollution in the Tarmiya area, which is about137 km2 in size, because of the importance of this agricultural area as itproduces a lot of agricultural crops such as fruit, dates, grain and vegetabletypes, which consumed by many residents of Baghdad and other provinces. This study are included knowledge of content the soil to ten elements(Ni,Cu,Co,Pb,Cr,V,Fe,Zn,Cd and Mn) to detect the pollution in the soil usingthe indices ,contamination factor (CF) and geo-accumulation index(Igeo). The results reflect that most models are pollution free except for a fewindicating slightly contamination due to industrial facilities located in thestudy region especially in the Abu srweil district.
