Abstract

The study of population growth is one of the most recent and important studies at present, due to its consequences, in terms of increasing or decreasing the size of the population, depletion of natural resources and other population problems, and the population growth is based on three important elements are births, deaths and migration. The research will address the growth of the population of Babil province and its temporal and spatial variability over the period 1987-2018. The research aims to shed light on the reality of the annual population growth rates in the province of Babylon and its local variation according to its districts. It measures the impact of all the factors that cause population growth, whether from the impact of natural population growth (births and deaths) or the dynamic increase of net migration and T administrative boundaries in the province.The study revealed an annual growth rate of 2.2% per annum for the period 1987-2018 and fluctuation during this period, the rate is low as it reached 0.6% for the period 1987-1997 due to the Iraq-Iran war and the resulting cases of widowhood and a decline in fertility rates, As well as the sanctions imposed on Iraq during the nineties of the last century, and the spatial movement of the population after the events of 1991, and then peaked for the period 2005-2010, recorded 4.5% annually, due to the impact of a number of families to encourage births and improve the living and health situation in the province.
