Measure liquid viscosity depends on the pendulum model using image processing algorithms

Abstract

Every liquid has a specific viscosity depending on its atoms structure. The challenge to find the viscosity of any liquid is addressed within this paper. This paper suggested measuring liquid viscosity depending on analysis of pendulum dynamic motion using image processing algorithms. This is achieved by running the suggested algorithm to determine automatically the pendulum ball center then extract its motion. Pendulum immersed totally inside different liquids (water, vegetable oil, olive oil, and car oil), and the motion affected by the liquid friction which can be represented as a harmonic decay motion until stop. A homemade small glass bowl, pendulum with different ball mass (37, 96, 130 and 300 gm), and a smartphone are used to analyze and measure liquid viscosity at room temperature. This achieved by introducing algorithms where the fitted data gives a good match with the experimental data. The introduced method gives fast and small error (0.026%) results.
