Environmental Themes in Science Fiction: Dune and - A Door into Ocean as Examples

Abstract

Environmental themes are very important subjects that have reflected in the writings of many writers since the last quarter of the previous century. Ecocriticism is a field of criticism that is concerned with the writings that tackle these themes. This paper tries to present an overview of Dune and A Door into Ocean, two science fiction. The paper follows the descriptive and analytical approaches in giving general description to the important themes regarding the environment and nature that these two novels in particular evoke. The paper presents as well a comparison between the two novels to show how each of them exposes the social maltreatment of nature and its catastrophic consequences. The paper ends with a conclusion that sums up the results of the discussion.
