EFFECT OF METHYL TESTOSTERONE ON SPERM MOTILITY AND SEMINAL FLUID ZINC 167 CONCENTRATION IN INFERTILE MALES

Abstract

This study is a prospective study which included 114 infertile males referred from private clinics from November 2005 to March 2006. Their seminal fluid was analyzed by routine laboratory methods. Seminal plasma zinc concentration was assayed by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The infertile males with abnormal sperm motility (43 patients with seminal fluid zinc concentration more than 50 µg/ ml & 71 patients having seminal fluid zinc concentration less than 50 µg/ ml) were treated by 25mg methyl testosterone twice daily for three months. Methyl testosterone affects significantly (p<0.01) sperm motility and seminal fluid zinc concentration only when pre- treatment seminal fluid zinc concentration was low.The treatment affects significantly (p<0.01) age ranges 25-35 and 36-45 years.There was no significant effect (p>0.01) of methyl testosterone on both sperm motility and seminal fluid zinc concentration in infertile males with age range 46-55 years.
