TRAINING NEEDS AND PROBLEMS OF BEEKEEPERS IN IRAQ
Abstract
The research aimed at determine the training needs and problems of beekeepers, and their reflection on the beehive's productivity in lraq. Data collected by using a questionnaire form a sample of 106 beekeepers distributed: north, middle, and south of the country. Results showed that 65% of the beekeepers haven't trained in the beekeeping topics, 66.9% of the beekeepers deepening upon their experience as a major information resource, 650/o of The beekeepers said they need training in the beekeeping topics. Modern methods and technologies in the beekeeping came in the first range in the training needs, and pesticides were the next topic. 92% of the beekeepers side they were facing problems in their projects. The problems were distributing into 9 aspects, which are: pests, production's material, protection service, government support, extension service, agricultural pesticides, security condition, frofessional service, and swarming. The production average of beehives was 8.84 kg honey. This average is very low. The characteristics of beekeepers and the problems were reflected on the productivity of apiaries.
