The Turkish-Iranian Relations 2002-2008

Abstract

The Turkish-Iranian relations witnessed big developments in the political and economic fields during the years (2002-2008), besides of cooperation in the energy and security aspects, which were crowned by signing the Comprehensive Security Agreement in August 2008 through the visit of Iranian president Mahmood Ahmady Nejad to Ankara in mid August of the same year. The development in the relations of the two states is related to a number of factors, the coming the government of Justice and Development Party to the power in Turkey in the last of 2002, and its pursuing a balanced foreign policy which aimed to enhance the relations with its geographic neighborhood states, besides of the American occupation for Iraq in 2003 and what it which is caused dangerous security results imposed on the two states promoting the security cooperation between them
