Loans in the Neo-Assyrian Period (911-612 B.C.)

Abstract

Loans are of great significance in studying the economic affairs in the Neo-Assyrian Period since they are closely related to the economic life of human beings. People were obliged to borrow money due to many clamaties and crises they were experienced in like draught waves and attacks made by the grasshhopers on the farmes and so on.Therefore man in the time forced to borrow ready money (silver and gold) or to borrow goods like (animals, grains..... etc) to facilitate living needs. The borrower was committed himself with repaying the indebted money, if not, he should have pay additional advantage. Sometimes he would have to put one of his family member under mortgage or to give some of his animals to be under the service of the lender against the debts that burden his shoulders.
