The effects of norethisterone on blood pressure, serum glucose concentrations, AST, ALT, and alkaline phosphatase Activities
Abstract
The study was conducted to investigate the effects of norethisterone on blood pressure (BP) , serum glucose concentration, Alanine amino transferase (ALT), Asparatate amino transferase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase activities. Forty tow female patients complain of bleeding problems were included in this study .The patients were diagnosed as having dysfunctional uterine bleeding and menstrual tension syndrome. Norethisteron therapy started for all women in a dose of 5 mg twice daily for 3 consequent cycles from 19th to 26th day of the cycle .Before drug administration, Blood pressure, Fasting serum glucose concentration (FSG), Alanine amino transferase Asparatate amino transferase ,and alkaline phosphatase activites were determined and at the end of the study period , re-measurement of the mentioned parameters were performed Assessment of drug effects was determined by comparing the data obtained before and after drug administration .The results revealed a significant increase in BP, serum glucose concentration Alanine amino transferase, Asparatate amino transferase and alkaline phosphatase activities after therapy with norethisterone tablet for 3 months. In conclusion , the use of norethisterone 5 mg twice a day for the treatment of bleeding disorders may cause elevation of blood pressure ,serum glucose concentration, AST, ALT and alkaline phosphatase activities.
