DESIGN PARAMETER EFFECTS ON THE Thermal PERFORMANCE OF SPECIAL PACKED BED FOR HEAT STORAGE

Abstract

In this research the study of design parameters effect on thermal performance of packed bed which is used for heat storage was carried out. These parameters are thermal capacity of material which is used in thermal storage, mass flow rate of air using charging mode of unit storage, diameters of solid particles and relation between height and diameter of storage container. A mathematical model was made for the problem and the governing equations for the time dependent temperature distributions in both the solid and fluid phase are solved by the implicit finite difference technique. A computer program in FORTRAN (95) was built to carry on the numerical solution. The results are expressed as function of design parameters and show good agreement with results of other workers. It is showed that the thermal energy stored is in direet proportion to thermal capacity and mass flow rate and diameter of storage container while inversely proportional to diameters of particles and height of unit storage.
