EFFECT OF NOTCH ANGLE AND NOTCH ROOT RADIUS ON THE NOTCH SENSITIVITY OF MEDIUM CARBON STEEL UNDER STATIC AND DYNAMIC STRESSES EFFECTS.

Abstract

Stress concentration is critically looked at in view of the large number ofreported cases of failure attributed to the presence of some form of stressconcentration; these are usually associated with stress concentration. This paperstudies the effect of both notch angle and notch root radius on notch sensitivity indexof medium carbon steel .Bending fatigue tests carried out on specimens carryingangular notch. Results showed that the notch angle and notch root radius theincrement of is accompanied by a corresponding increase in endurance and tensilestrength. On the after hand stress concentration effect is found to decrease. Notchsensitivity variation with both stress concentration factor Kt and fatigue strengthreduction factor Kf is found similar.
