The effect of using different ratios of pomegranate peels powder on performance and some blood characteristics in Awassi Lambs

Abstract

24 Awassi Lambs were used in the experiment with age range 4-5 months and average weight of 21.29±0.42 Kg. These lambs were divided into 8 groups according to their weight, each group had 3 lambs, then the treatments randomly distributed on groups. In this experiment, which included 4 rations with different levels of pomegranate peels powder 0, 2, 4, 6% and fed to the lambs within two levels of concentrate fodder according to the body weight 3, 2% for each ration and for 84 days. Results showed there was a significant increase (P<0.05) in the final weight, daily weight and total weight gain for the 3% level of concentrate compared with the 2% level, wihle the pomegranate peels didn‘t show significant effect. The 3% concentrate level showed a significant increase (P<0.05) in the consumption of the dry matter and feed efficiency compared with the 2% level with the same results for the interfere, wihle the pomegranate peels didn‘t show significant effect. The 3% concentrate fodder level showed a significant increase (P<0.05) in the blood glucose compared with the 2% level, while the pomegranate peels didn’t show any effect. There was a significant increase for the total protein and cholesterol with the increase of the pomegranate peels. The concentrate level didn‘t show a significant effect on blood urea, wihle pomegranate peels showed a significant decrease. The pomegranate peels and the concentrate fodder didn’t show effect on triglyceride
