Effect of using dried basil leaves powder on some productive and hematological traits of Japanese quail

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of dried basil leaves powder as feed additives on some productive and hematological traits in Japanese. A total of 128,one day old of Japanese quail chicks (7.5 gm/chick) were used in the experiment .Chick were divided randomly into two equal treatments ,each treatment included four replicates (16 chick/replicate ) . The first treatment (T1) was fed on basal diet without any additive and regarded as control mean while the second treatment (T2) was fed the same basal diet with additive 1.5 gm dried basil leaves powder /kg .The experiment was lasted at 42 days . Mean body weight weekly ,total weight gain and feed conversion rate were calculated in addition to feed total serum protein and albumin and globulin and cholesterol were evaluated .Results illustrated a significant increase (p<0.05) in body weights , total weight gains and feed conversion rate of the second treatment (T2)which was included addition of dried basil leaves powder ,there were a significant decrease(p<0.05) in serum cholesterol ,while the total serum protein ,albumin and globulin were increased significantly in(T2) .It was concluded that the addition of dried basil leaves powder led to significant improvement of the productive and hematological traits of Japanese quail bird.
