Prevalence of blaCTX-M-15 Among ESBLs-Producing Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolated from Some Hospitals of Baghdad

Abstract

Forty-six Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates were collected from some hospitals of Baghdad between November 2012 and July 2013. The isolates were obtained from various clinical specimens including: blood (23), urine (19), wounds (2), ear swab (1), and sputum (1) isolates. Antimicrobial susceptibility test were carried out towards 15 antimicrobials using Vitek 2 compact system, and the patterns of resistance was revealed that the high percentage of resistance for antimicrobials studied, especially for cephalosporins and co-trimoxazole, while the most effective antimicrobials were carbapenems and amikacin. The results of capability of isolates to produce extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) showed that thirty-nine (84.78%) of isolates were gave positive result. Among 39 ESBLs-producing K. pneumoniae, blaCTX-M genes were identified in 32 isolates (Approx. 82%). Sequencing of amplified product (551 bp) was showed 99% homology with blaCTX-M-15 genotype.
