Effect Of Sulfur And Npk Fertilizers In Some Growth Characteristics Of Wheat Triticum Aestivum L.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during 2010 – 2011 and 2011 – 2012 seasons at the Experimental Farm , Department of Field Crop College of Agriculture University of Baghdad to study the effect of sulfur and nitrogen , phosphorus , potassium fertilizers on some growth characteristics of wheat . RCBD with four replications was used as Factoriale experiment, involved two factors , first was sulfur application in four levels ( 0 , 2 , 4 , 6 ton ha-1 ) , the second was application nitrogen , phosphorus and potassium fertilizers as recommendations ( 200 kg N ha-1 ,100 kg P2O5 ha-1 and 120 kg K ha-1 ) and half of recommendations . Results showed that 4 ton h-1 was superior in most of growth characteristics of wheat ( plant height 99.96 cm for second season ,total number of tiller was 530.1 ,550.8 tiller m-2 ,dry weight was 1596.25, 1705.15 g m-2 ,crop growth rate 13.528, 13.223 g m-2 d-1 and biomass yield 22.045, 22.571 Mg ha-1 for both season compared with control which gave the least value about 455.9,516.0 tiller m-2 ,1377.0 , 1549.6 g m-2 ,11.669, 11.906 g m-2 d-1 14.980,14.964 Mg ha-1 . Application NPK As recommended was superior in all growth characteristics of wheat in increasing 2.74% in plant height for second season ,8.85% 14% for total tiller number , 12.69% , 14.55% for flag leaf area , 9.49%, 9.25% plant dry weight , 9.49% , 9.22% crop growth rate ,24.04% ,9.77% for biomass yield . The interaction between two facter was significant in all the studied trails .The results of this study was demonstrate that sulfur application in 4 ton h-1 with NPK fertilizers as recommended was sigineficantly affected in all wheat growth characteristics .
