Productive Performance Evaluation of The Ostrich Under local Climate

Abstract

This study was carried out at the Agricultural Research Station at Al-Dawar, to evaluate the productive performance of growing birds aged 12, 13 and 14 months, and the productive performance of the adults female on the other hand. This is the first study in Iraq, for the performance of growing birds: there has been a marked improvement of traits under study with age, body weight (kg) and weight gain (kg), as well as the efficiency of feed conversion. The same improvement on the body dimensions like chest width (cm), length of legs (cm) and thigh length (cm) shank length (cm) with age. High significant correlation (P < 0.01) appeared between body weight and leg length, which appeared clearly in the equation to predict body weight.Adult Female’s productive performance has been obtained during a period of six months from the beginning of egg’s production, the number of eggs produced during this period (101) eggs and food conversion efficiency ( 1 kg eggs : 5.99 kg feed).
