The eye doctor in the Abbasid period treats the eyes and their diseases and refractive errors ,This includes treatment of eye diseases from ophthalmology, inflammation, rectification, treatment of black water, white water and other diseases. Some of the diseases of the eye range from acute to sudden, sub-acute, chronic and diabetic retinopathy.

يعرف طب العيون على انه هو ذلك الفرع من علوم الطب الذي يتعامل مع أمراض وجراحة المسالك البصرية متضمن ذلك العين، العصب البصري، والمناطق المحيطة بالعين مثل الجهاز الدمعي وجفني العين، فطبيب العيون في العصر العباسي يعنى بمعالجة العينين وما يصيبهما من أمراض واخطاء انكسارية، قد يشمل هذا معالجة الأمراض التي تصيب العين من رمد او التهابات وتصحيح النظر ومعالجة السويرق (المياه السوداء) والساد (المياه البيضاء) والأمراض الأخرى.} }
