الملخص:كانت المسرحية شعرية لدى الإغريق والرومان تكتب شعرًا، وكانت مسرحيات شكسبير من الشعر المرسل إلا أن السائد هو الموزون المقفى وتتمتع المسرحية بثلاثة شعراء كبار هم (موليير كورني وراسين)، ففي فرنسا في القرن السابع عشر وأشار راسين إلى جعل الكوميديا أكثر صلة بالحياة الواقعية، وحصل في القرن الثامن خلط في كتابة المسرحيات شعرًا ونثرًا، ولكن بتأثير الثورة الصناعية ظهرت تيارات عديدة مثل الرومانتيكية في المانيا.في القرن التاسع عشر ظهر المسرح العربي متأثرًا بالمسرح الغربي من خلال كتابات مارون النقاش وما صرح به صلاح عبد الصبور من أهمية العودة إلى أحضان الشعر باعتبار أن الشعر ديوان العرب ولا يمكن التخلي عنه، ومجيء توفيق الحكيم والتحولات التي حصلت على النص المسرحي كلا حسب جهة تأثره بالمسرح الغربي.
