The researchers adopted the (Skinner. HA, 1982) Dast-20 instrument in the diagnosis process. A "yes" or "no" response is requested from each of the 20 questions, and each yields a score (one, zero) respectively. The researchers used the total score to decide the severity of addiction. The total score (zero) means that the tested person is clear of addiction, the total (1-5) means that there is a light addiction case, the total (6-10) means that there is a moderate addiction case, whereas the total (11-15) means that the addiction is severe and the total (16-20) means that the addiction is very severe.

يهدف البحث الحالي إلى تشخيص حالات الإدمان على المخدرات ودرجة شدتها عند عينة من طلبة الأقسام الداخلية في جامعة البصرة/ موقع كرمة علي, وقد تبنى الباحثان الاداة DAST- 20 للعالم (Skinner, HA, 1982) في عملية التشخيص والمكونة من (20) عشرين سؤالاً , وتكون الإجابة عن كل سؤال بـ(نعم أو لا) إذ تأخذ الدرجات (واحد, صفر) على التوالي.استعمل الباحثان مجموع الدرجات في معرفة شدة الإدمان فالمجموع (صفر) يدل على عدم وجود حالة إدمان عند الشخص المفحوص, والمجموع (1-5) يدل على وجود حالة إدمان خفيفة او بسيطة, والمجموع (6- 10) يدل على وجود حالة إدمان متوسطة, والمجموع (11- 15) يدل على وجود حالة إدمان شديدة, والمجموع (16- 20) يدل على حالة وجود إدمان شديدة جداً.} }
