A mechanical forced draught counter flow cooling tower of 0.6096m X0.9144m cross – sectional area and 1.8288m high was constructed. The packing has been studied theoretically and experimentally.Air flow rates of 1.5156 – 9.46 kg/s were used in conjunction with water flow rates of 6.123 – 12.247 kg/s.The overall volumetric mass transfer coefficient (Kga) is found to be a function of the water and air flow rates simultaneously. Kga can be affected by themaldistribution of water and packs arrangement.The pressure drop characteristics are determined for different water and air flow rates.
