Ismael and Samaan Majeed Yas and Ali Awda Mohammed}, journal={DIYALA JOURNAL OF ENGINEERING SCIENCES مجلة ديالى للعلوم الهندسية}, volume={13}, number={1}, pages={24-33}, year={2020}, abstract={The classification of land uses in the city is an essentialelement for the organization and distribution of land useswhen it is preparing and updating master plans for cities.The land uses in each country are divided into single,secondary, hierarchical or other classifications accordingto the planning requirements for land uses in the country.The problem of research is that most land-useclassifications in Iraqi cities lack a uniform and convergentclassification of land uses which they depend for updatingor preparing the master plans, so, the studying andanalyzing the classification of land uses for seven Iraqicities, we note that there is no uniform and convergentclassification, and there isn’t overlap and complementarityof land uses for the existing and future of land useclassification in these cities.The aim of the research is to prepare a proposal for theclassification of land uses for Iraqi cities as a reference andguide when the preparation and updating of the masterplans for Iraqi cities.One of the most important research conclusions isunclear classification of the land uses in Iraqi cities eitherprimary or secondary classification but there is a differentclassification of each city according to the existing of landuse, and its adoption in whole or near total for future landuses.The research proposed to classify land uses into sevenmajor classifications, including residential, economic,mixed, public services, recreational, infrastructure andother land uses, these major land uses have been classifiedinto 19 secondary classifications and more than 60 land usein detail.
