The Nizamiyya and the other schools that followed are a supportive front for the Abbasid caliphate in the face of the sectarian and ideological dangers it was facing.

حظيت المدرسة النظامية التي اسسها الوزير السلجوقي نظام الملك بمكانة علمية كبيرة، إذ انها اوقفت على المذهب الشافعي، ودرَس فيها كبار علماء هذا المذهب الذين أصبحوا يعينون رسمياً فيها، فضلاً عن نظامها التعليمي الذي أخذت تطبقه المدارس الأخرى التي انشئت بعد النظامية أو ممن عاصرها، فأصبحت النظامية وما تلاها من المدارس الأخرى جبهة ساندة للخلافة العباسية أمام الأخطار المذهبية والعقائدية التي كانت تواجهها.
