The eye was called "Alwchaat", the left eye of the God of Horus, which he lost in his eternal struggle with his maleficent enemy, Set. Its completion indicates health and strength. It is a graphic translation for Egyptian ancient Math in which it is regarded as an arithmetic equivalent for the parts of the even one. It was used in amulets and necklaces for protecting and preserving in which it was in the form of the cobra snake, which protects from harm on the forehead of the god, and it is one of the most common and strangest symbols in Egyptian art.

شكلت العين دور في اللغة الهيروغليفية عندما ظهرت كإحدى العلامات أو الرموز التي عبرت عن الاعمال والافعال المتصلة بها كالرؤية والانتباه والملاحظة وغيرها ، فهي اختيرت كرمز أسطوري نظراً لاهميتها كعضو في الجسم الأنساني وكمحور أساسي دار عليه الصراع بين حورس وست . وسميت العين بـ "الوﭽات" وهي العين اليسرى لإله حورس التي فقدها في صراعه الابدي مع عدوه الشرير ست ويرمز إكتمالها للصحة والقوة وتمثل هي ترجمة جرافيكية للرياضيات المصرية القديمة وتعد معادلًا حسابياً لاجزاء الواحد الصحيح ، وقد استخدمت في التمائم والقلادات للحماية والوقاية حيث تندمج في شكل حية الكوبرا التي تقي من الاذى على جبين الإله ، وهي من أكثر الرموز شيوعاً في الفن المصري وأغربها .
