Apart from occupational exposures there are many ways in which humans are exposed to lead; through air, contaminated drinking water& food, deteriorating paint, and dust as it is used in paint, gasoline, water pipes, and many other products. So this study aimed to assess the mean blood lead level in non - occupationally exposed Iraqi individuals in order as a reflector of the degree of environmental pollution. The study could be regarded as a preliminary step in finding out the real magnitude of the problem. The study is a cross sectional study conducted during 2008 among selected people who proved not to be exposed to lead in occupational terms. They had been subjected to verbal inquiry and blood testing for lead. Subjects participated were 60 (43 males & 17 females) who were non - occupationally lead exposed individuals and attending the blood withdrawing unit preoperatively at The Specialized Surgeries hospital in Medical City in Baghdad. All of them were residing faraway from lead emitting plants. Collection of blood samples Blood Samples analysis done in The Poisoning Research Center. Blood lead level determination was carried out according to the procedure described in atomic absorption spectrophotometer manual model Buck scientific 220-GF. It has been found that the highest mean blood lead level was among the age group of 40-49 yrs (26.47 µg/dl). The mean blood lead level of the study group was (23.95 µg/dl) which is higher than the accepted level for environmental exposure (20 µg/dl). The mean blood lead level was higher in males 24.53 µg/dl in comparison with females 22.47 µg/dl. Environmental lead levels require regular monitoring of air lead level at least twice a year and identify the main causes of elevated levels with trying to control them.

منذ فترة طويلة الرصاص المعترف بها على أنها ملوث البيئية الضارة. وبصرف النظر عن حالات التعرض المهني هناك العديد من الطرق التي يتم فيها تعرض البشر للرصاص، من خلال الهواء، ومياه الشرب الملوثة والمواد الغذائية، والطلاء المتدهورة، والغبار لأنها تستخدم في الطلاء، والبنزين، أنابيب المياه، والعديد من المنتجات الأخرى. تهدف هذه الدراسة لذلك لتقييم مستوى الرصاص في الدم يعني في غير - المعرضين مهنيا الأفراد العراقي في النظام باعتباره العاكس لدرجة التلوث البيئي. ويمكن اعتبار هذه الدراسة كخطوة أولية في معرفة الحجم الحقيقي للمشكلة. هذه الدراسة عبارة عن دراسة مقطعية أجريت خلال عام 2008 بين الشعب المختار الذي ثبت عدم التعرض للرصاص من حيث المهنية. تعرضوا للتحقيق لفظية وفحص الدم للرصاص. وشارك الموضوعات كان 60 (43 ذكور وإناث 17) الذين كانوا غير - قيادة الأفراد المعرضين مهنيا وحضور وحدة سحب الدم قبل الجراحة في مستشفى الجراحات التخصصية في مدينة الطب في بغداد. وجميعهم من المقيمين بعيد من النباتات التي ينبعث منها الرصاص. جمع عينات الدم الدم تحليل عينات عمله في مركز أبحاث التسمم. وأجري تحديد مستوى الرصاص في الدم وفقا للإجراءات المنصوص عليها في الامتصاص الذري نموذج دليل طيفي باك العلمي 220-GF. وقد وجد أن أعلى متوسط مستوى الرصاص في الدم كان من بين الفئة العمرية من 40-49 عاما (26.47 ميكروغرام / دل). كان مستوى الرصاص في الدم يعني من مجموعة الدراسة (23.95 ميكروغرام / دل) التي هي أعلى من المستوى المقبول لالتعرض لعوامل بيئية (20 ميكروغرام / دل). كان الرصاص في الدم يعني مستوى أعلى في الذكور 24.53 ميكروغرام / ديسيلتر في مقارنة مع الإناث 22.47 ميكروغرام / ديسيلتر. مستويات الرصاص البيئية تتطلب مراقبة منتظمة لمستوى الرصاص في الهواء الأقل مرتين في السنة، وتحديد الأسباب الرئيسية لمستويات مرتفعة مع محاولة السيطرة عليها.} }
