The topic of the research is concerned with the paramount importance of financial sustainability and the possibility of achieving it in light of the risks of public debt in Iraq, especially crises and economic difficulties, The research problem revolves around the impact of high public debt on the possibility of achieving financial sustainability in Iraq, To achieve the objectives of the research, statistical descriptive analysis was used to verify the potential of financial sustainability and the impact of its use to reduce public debt risk problems, and to analyze public debt indicators in Iraq for the period under study, The research found many reasons, the most important of which is that the public debt indicators indicate that Iraq has not reached the stage of danger according to international standards, However, the existence of public debt with the continuation of the financial crisis, and the continuous budget deficit, affect and bring Iraq closer to the stage of danger, especially since some indicators confirmed reaching the stage of danger, The researcher recommends adopting a policy of coordination and harmony between the fiscal policy and the public debt management, aiming at exchanging information and coordinating the activities of decision makers to take correct and appropriate decisions related to the government's current and future requirements of the financial budget
