Intellectual and cultural landmarks in Aden Between the fifth and sixth centuries AD

Abstract

AbstractThis research deals with the intellectual and cultural movement in Aden in the fifth century Higri. Aden at that time was ruled by the Ismaeli- tendency Azzari-iah State. But we did not obtain in the sources which are within our access any open stories that reveal absolutely and truly thee Ismaeli type of this government. We would exclude the indications that the leaders of this state were (propagandists) While we lack evidences on this affiliation we have poetry proof, particularly the poems of the historian Ammar Alyamani who played an effective role in this state. We have become familiar with the history of this state, and touched into the political aspects as much as we go deeper into research. We preferred the stories which involve truth and little confusion. We did not contemplate long before the stories which involve a lot of doubt and had received little criticism. We did not deal much with the construction movement in this era, particularly the installations which were set up by the Ismaeli Al Zrei’ in Aden, because this was not disclosed by the sources. We however knew some of them and found unmatched care having been given to some jamas in Aden city, like Aden Jama, for example. This is because the Ismaelis scarcely gave attention to the Sunni mosques. Here we said” This is not a sort of immoderation in which we must not be involved. They exercised a degree of tolerance and contributed to renewal of this old historical jama and other jamas. It was inevitable to admit that we went deeply into the study of the cultural movement but not in study of cultural and construction heritage, particularly poetry and poems. Probably we will learn after -consideration and long study- about the ideology of this state. We mentioned specimens of the poets and their poems. We did not like to deal too much with narrating this poetry for fear of boring.. Otherwise there are many collections of poems which were produced in this stage. Ammar Alyamani mentioned clearly and openly his allegiance to the Fatimis who were the strategic center of the Zuraii State. We alluded to the poetic rivalry at Almandhar House in Aden. Most probably it was one of the palaces of the Zuraii State which we believe to belong to their installations in Aden, and today they are among the wiped out heritages which had been located on the Almandhar Mount in Aden which is opposite the historical Seerah mount , which is an important historical landmark in Aden. This is a summary of the research.Probably it tended to be incompatibly brief. But it generally sheds light on the studied aspect of the research which requires in the next days more research and investigation into the cultural and intellectual legacy of the Ismaeli Shiait intellectual thought.
