Abstract

This study has been design to estimate the histological effect of iron in food on the tissue of liver, spleen, kidney and heart. Sixteen healthy female mice with age of six week were used. Mice were divided in four groups. Three groups were feed with fortified food with iron and the other groups were feed with the same source of food but unfortified with iron. Three level of fortification were used (40, 80, and 120,) mg/kg. Same food was used during the time of the experiment. At the end of the experiment, samples of blood were taken to measure the hemoglobin (Hb) and the pursuer of cell volume (PCV) by bleeding through heart puncture. Mice in all the groups were then sacrificed and slides from the tissues of heart, kidney, liver and spleen had been made.
