Salnamas Wilaya of West Tripoli and its importance in the study of the modern Libyan history

Abstract

This research aims to study the yearly reports (salnamas) which issued by Ottoman administration in the Wilaya of west Tripoli during the end of the 19th century. These salnamas considers asan important historical document for it contain a historical information's about administration ,Walies , officials ,administrative board .It contains also another information's about the economic sides such as lands ,agriculture , market , internal and external trades , texts, and budget , as well as social sides such as population, tribes, education, health and foreign colonies.The research has shown the instability of the administrative side of the Wilaya , as witnessed economic aspect of diversity and prosperity in the production, sale and purchase operations, through official statistics mentioned. As for the social aspects, the public services that were provided by the government at the time were limited to major cities and near its authority. The period witnessed an increase in the number of foreign communities, and the number of consuls who represent the communities of those countries , which was an introduction to the penetration and colonization
