The fact of monitoring and evaluation of technology transfer and dissemination process of protected agriculture for vegetable growers in Iraq and the benefit level of their utilization of it

Abstract

The research aimed to diagnose the fact of monitoring and evaluation of transfer and dissemination process of protected agriculture technology for vegetable growers in Iraq, and identifying the level of benefit of their utilization of it. The research area composed of 8 provinces randomly (Kirkuk, Baghdad, Anbar, Karbala, Najaf, Qadisiyah, Dhi Qar, Maysan). Two cluster random samples have been chosen, the first 15% from the agricultural employees’ work at several agricultural departments concerned. The second 1% has been chosen from the protected vegetable growers (Green houses+Tunnels), so the total samples volume became 154 employees’ and 115 growers. The researchers prepared two quad scales for the purpose of measuring the fact included 77 items, and another quad scale to measure the level of the growers benefit included 37 items distributed on 3 suggested aspects of the benefit (economic side, technical side, practical side). The research concluded that there were a big weakness in the follow-up and absence of the evaluation for the extension businesses concerned which carried out by the organizations surveyed, as well as the lack of real benefit for those growers from utilization of this technology. The researchers recommended the need to a field follow-up continuously and regularly for the growers to help them to continue to adopt this technology, also the need to un evaluation of services and activities carried out to them in this field (objectively and according to a specific mechanism). As well as the need to execute an economic and analytical feasibility studies for the various protected vegetable crops taking into consideration the need to educate growers the results constantly and teach them necessary skills of how to take advantage of them in practice, through the extension activities that performs for them in this field.
