Effect of growth regular) Cifo rigenal P) and type of cutting on the rooting and growth of Platanus orientalis L.

Abstract

This experiment was carried out during the period between February 20ͭ ͪ and October 1st, 2016 at the Nursery of the College of Agricultural / University of Sulaimani, Sulaimani city with an altitude of 748 meter above mean sea level, to find out the effect of cutting type and plant growth regulator (Cifo rigenal P(0.05 NAA) on the improvement of rooting of cuttings, vegetative and root growth characteristics of Platanus orientalis, using three types of cuttings; basal, intermediate and apical cuttings, and auxin application (Cifo rigenal P(0.05 NAA), in a factorial experiment of a randomized block design (RCBD) in three replications, the means were compared according to Duncan’s multiple range test (P≤0.05). The data revealed significant effect of the cutting type and growth regulator on most of studied growth characters. The basal cutting has been superior significantly on the intermediate and apical cuttings giving the highest results for; survival percentage (37.68%), length of seedling (31.92 cm), stem diameter (5.94 mm), number of branches/seedling (2.83), number of leaves/seedling (15.66) fresh weight of shoot system (29.91), dry weight of shoot system (18.35), number of lateral roots/ seedling (10.67), root length (34.33 cm), fresh weight of root system (20.07 g), and dry weight of root system (8.66 g). From the results, use of Cifo rigenal P, significantly gave the highest value of studied characters; stem diameter (5.35 mm), number of branches/seedling (2.00), number of leaves/seedling (13.22), fresh weight of shoot system (24.26 g), dry weight of shoot system (14.00 g), number of lateral roots/seedling (8.78), root length (28.68), fresh weight of root system (15.26 g), dry weight of root system (6.33 g). Whereas treatments without Cifo rigenal P gave significant highest results in the survival percentage (30.96%) and seedling length (26.10 cm). so the interaction of basal cuttings with auxin application (c1h2) significantly gave the best results for most of studied characters.
