The Effect of Using(4 MAT) Model in acquiring biological concepts and their retention in female students of Second Intermediate Class

Abstract

The current research aims to know the effect of using 4 MAT model in acquiring the biological concepts and its retention in female students of second intermediate class in biology subject. The experiment started on Sunday 22/2/2015 with two classes a week for each group. I have taught both groups in the second term of academic year (2014 – 2015). The experiment ended on Wednesday 22 / 4 / 2015. The sample of the research had been chosen randomly represented by (Fidha Intermediate School for Girls) in the center of Babylon governorate. The number of the sample is (83) students and the experimental design with partial control was chosen for two equivalent groups: experimental and control. The number of experimental was (42) female students، were teaching according to 4 MAT model and a control group of (41) students were teaching according to traditional method. Both groups were equal statistically in some variations such as time age، intelligence test، previous acquiring، testing the previous information and the education of the parents. (240) behavioral aims had been formed for learning material concerning the behavioral aims، that included the last three chapters seventh، eighth and ninth of biology book for second intermediate class. (16) study plans had been prepared and the tool of the research had been constructed represented by testing acquiring the biological concepts consists of (66) test items and it was a multiple test with four options. The test applied on both groups and two weeks later of the test، it was done again on the sample of the research to know the extent of retention the biological concepts in students and the results had been treated statistically. It appeared the superiority of experimental group who study according to 4 MAT model upon the students of control group who study according to traditional method. So، from the results، we recommend that the teachers of biology should recognize the modern methods and styles and to use them in teaching and including the material of teaching method in colleges of education and basic education.
