Jordanian-Egyptian Relations (1981-1989)

Abstract

The relations between the Arab countries in the Arab world had common links between history, blood, religion, language and common land. However different political views among the Arab countries did not affect the national loyalty of the Arab countries and their belonging to the Arab nation did not affect the Arab unity that stands in front of foreign intervention destroying the national unity of the Arab countries. Thus, we notice that the Arab countries stand together against any interference that affects the unity of the Arab world. The best proof of this unity is the Jordanian-Egyptian relations from 1981-1989. Whatever strained the relations between the two countries; they do not affect the unity of the Arab nation and did not discourage the assistance of each other and stand against any foreign intervention that affects the unity of Arab soil.Because of the different political views among the Arab countries, the relations between Jordan and Egypt have been strained at times. Especially when Egypt was governed by three heads from the 1952 revolution to the 1980s, and each of these three have its own orientations and policies in its foreign relations with the Arab countries, including Jordan. Egyptian-Jordanian relations during Gamal Abdel-Nasser's era were close, but during the reign of President Mohamed Anwar Sadat and his reign (1970-1981), he was troubled but during the reign of President Hosni Mubarak and his reign was more harmonious until it reached the joint Arab cooperation among the Arab countries. The political positions taken by Egypt towards the development of Arab issues at that time are based on the Arab countries' tendency to reconcile with them the seriousness of the situation faced by the Arab world from internal conflicts aimed at destroying the national unity of the Arab countries. King Hussein's belief that Egypt alone can restore Syria to its right after its antagonism against the Arabs and its stand with Iran in the Iran-Iraq war and the restoration of relations with Egypt is due to internal reasons for Jordan, especially the impact of the Jordanian economy on the phenomenon of economic recession.
