Abstract

At the beginning of the twentieth century a number of modern art movements like Cubism, Expressionism, Fauvism, Futurism and Abstractionism appeared with cogently various styles. As these so-called schools of art have parodied modern life, the researchers have found it quite necessary to account for the concept of geometric modeling that marks modern art, hence being the core of the study. Based on an analytical and historical approach, the study has been concerned with this phenomenon from several angles . The research approach accounts for the problem, significance, objective and limits of the research in addition to the terminology. The theoretical framework takes into consideration the references of geometric modeling from historical, philosophical and artistic angles. Then light has been shed on geometric modeling in the modern European painting, hence tackling such movements as Cubism, Futurism and Abstractionism. The study has also included the research population, samples in line with analyses of some of artists' works, reaching a number of outcomes, conclusions, recommendations and suggestions the first of which relates to the crying need for more studies dealing with the controversy over the concept of geometric models in modern European painting.
