The Emergence of Rajaz between the Pre-Islamic and Islamic Epochs in the Studies of Orientalists

Abstract

Orientalists' studies represent a starting point of many contemporary Arabic studies which are laboring to approach the emergence of Arabic poetry and searching for its beginning. Their critical views formed the beginning of sound scientific researching concerning the linkage of Arabic poetry beginning to alliteration on one side, and emergence and development on the other till it became constant as a poetic prosody of independent metrical rhymes thanks to Al-Khalil bin Ahmed El-Farahidi. Therefore, we notice that most orientalists tried to link between the dominant Arabic culture of that time and the emergence and development of Rajaz. This study, then, is to quest for those views which led to figuring out that difficult period in the history of Arabic poetry.
